One awesome New York City public school is about to take a group of students on a rich learning experience full of adventure, fun, and freedom in Costa Rica.
Before the trip, students took a moment to reflect. Here are some of their responses:
It's only a few days until Costa Rica and the question I keep getting asked is am I excited. I always say "Yes, I am" but somehow I can see myself going but I don't feel myself there yet. I can see pictures and hear about Costa Rica. Even the workshops are intriguing to me. I am a little nervous because I have never been so far away from home before or even the fact that I don't really talk to any of the other kids in school who will be with me on the trip. I trust that I am safe but oddly enough I can't wait to come home before I go. Truly I am excited. This is big. Maybe the fact that this event is so big is taking me time to process that I am going. ~Celeste
I feel excited but also anxious in a way. This trip is different from my past experiences. My excitement is due to the fact that we will be researching the beautiful wildlife present in Costa Rica. The luscious green and colorful fauna, the vibrant colors that stand out from animal to animal, the disconnection from the city. It's an amazing opportunity and I feel blessed to be part of it. ~Roger
As the days get closer and closer, I feel the butterflies start to build up. I am extremely excited with this opportunity to embark on a study abroad. All I can think about is getting away from technology and becoming one with nature, walking through the life that came from the ashes of past Poas Volcano eruptions. I never thought I would have an opportunity to be here and today with my excitement and fear, I am extremely grateful for this. I didn't expect to get accepted let alone to be just days away from being on one of the world's most biodiverse places. ~Adrialis
Students received in-class and online instruction through a blended learning model to get a strong understanding of the history, culture and environment of Costa Rica. We will blog about it all here so follow our journey!
